Crossroads Craniosacral Therapy
WITH DEVRAH HART, RN, BSN, MS
A HANDS-ON HOLISTIC APPROACH TO BETTER HEALTH
What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle form of bodywork used to restore physical and emotional comfort, promote freedom of movement, and re-establish the body’s structural harmony.
The name refers to the cranial bones that cradle our brain and the sacral bone located near the base of our spine. CST was originally used to relieve restrictions of movement in the bones of the skull and spine. Over the decades, it was found that the same techniques can be applied to the bones and joints throughout the body.
The current focus is even broader: CST is also used to release restrictions in the fascia - the web of connective tissue that holds all parts of the body together. Chronic illness, injuries, and emotional traumas create tension in the fascial network. The body can hold this tension long after the injury has healed and the trauma is past. This results in restricted movement, chronic pain, and trapped emotional imprints.
During a session, the CS therapist blends an understanding of anatomy and physiology with the ability to sense the body’s subtler rhythms. Through light touch, she connects with the craniosacral rhythms that radiate to all areas of the body. She uses gentle holds to assist the body to “unwind” and release restrictions, along with the discomfort and dysfunction. Clients experience relief from pain and improved flexibility and function. A deep sense of inner peace can result.
What is Craniosacral Therapy used to treat?
Craniosacral Therapy has a wide spectrum of applications. It is frequently used for treatment of temporal-mandibular joint (TMJ) restrictions, neck and shoulder pain from chronic tension, low back pain, tendonitis, post-concussion syndrome, emotional tension and chronic exhaustion, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and the chronic pain that may result from physical injuries.
Due to its gentleness and effectiveness, many people include CST as part of their personal wellness program. They report sleeping better, having more energy, and feeling less stressed.

What does a Craniosacral Therapy session with Devrah look like?
The client remains clothed and lies on a massage table. Devrah uses light touch to connect with the body’s energy and its subtle rhythms. She employs a series of gentle holds to release restrictive patterns. As restrictions are released, the client usually experiences deep relaxation, sometimes a release of emotional or physical pain, possibly the experience of deep peace and comfort.
The unwinding progresses slowly, respecting the body’s process and pace. Devrah remains attuned to the rhythms of the body, listening to the body’s subtle communication. The responses of the client’s body direct the flow of the treatment.
Initial visits last 90 minutes. Return sessions last about 70 minutes. The treatment ends with a brief review of the findings and interventions used during the session.
